Overview

 

The Housing Authority provides alternative accommodation to those who lack suitable housing. The aim is to implement Government policy in the allocation of lease of Government owned residential units to applicants on the waiting list for Alternative Accommodation.

 

 

Who Can Apply

 

To qualify for alternative accommodation from the Housing Authority, applicants have to be:

 

·         Single Persons over 18 years of age

·         Single parents with unmarried children living with them over 18 years

·         Married couples

·         Separated (de facto), Annulled, Divorced persons

·         Refugees holding an official certificate from the United Nations or passport and ID card with an ‘A’

·         Persons Residing in Institutions and CCF

 

a)      The applicant is a Maltese citizen or married to Maltese citizen or a citizen of the EU acquiring his/her first residence  in Malta

b)      The applicant has been permanently residing in Malta for at least 12 months in the previous 18 months before submitting the application form

c)      Applicants should not possess more than € 27,952.48 (Lm12000) worth of assets  3 years prior to application

d)     The yearly income of single persons should not to exceed €8,152.80 (Lm 3,500) and that of married couples and brothers and sisters living together should not exceed €10,482.10 (Lm 4,500)

e)      For married couples with children income is increased € 698.81 (Lm 300) per child under 18 years

f)       For single parents with children income is increased by € 698.81 (Lm 300) per child under 18 years

 

Engaged couples are not eligible for alternative accommodation.

 

Process Of Application

 

Applications for alternative accommodation are to be made only on the prescribed forms that are available from the Housing Authority offices or website and have to be filed in person by applicants. Filing of applications through the post is not possible.

 

On receipt of the applications together with any required documents, the Housing Authority inspects the premises where the applicants reside and the data supplied by applicants themselves is checked.
