Energy Smart Authority

The Housing Authority has been in the forefront in the protection of the environment and promotion of more environmentally friendly buildings through its housing projects since 2004.  The Housing Authority continued in its policy to focus on better energy performance in buildings by securing funds under the Structural Funds 2007 – 2013, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), under Priority Axis 4 with Energy as a focus area.

Through its new project, Energy Smart Authority, the Housing Authority converted its offices in Floriana into eco-friendly, energy smart building. The total cost of the project amounts to around € 41,000 (inc VAT). The pilot project includes:

(A) Installation of a small scale Photovoltaic system

The project is targeted to analyse the results of the Photovoltaic system installed that could be potentially used for future social housing projects whilst promoting the use of Renewable Energy Sources. (B)  Installation of energy efficient measures in the lighting system

Six lighting optimisers have been installed to reduce the energy consumption of the lighting system by reducing the amount of voltage that lighting uses and achieve cost savings in the Authority's electricity bill.
