ERDF104 - Stronger Cottonera Communities

The ‘Stronger Cottonera Communities’ project consists of the regeneration of the Grand Harbour area, the renovation of common areas of multi-family housing estates and the landscaping and redevelopment of vacant space in the surrounding areas.

This project is managed by the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communication in collaboration with the Housing Authority, Aggenzija Sapport, and Bormla Local Council. This project is co-financed by the EU’s structural funds; 85% will be financed by the ERDF and 15% will be National expense.

The Housing Authority is responsible for the renovation of common areas in housing blocks. This includes enhancing the environment and a better quality of life for social housing tenants living in St. Nicholas Married Quarters and the Verdala Housing Estates in Cospicua. One of the main objectives is improving housing conditions. This includes structural and minor works, removal of illegal structures, installing new mechanical and electrical services system, and landscaping of common areas. Another important objective is to improve accessibility for the tenants by installing. Energy efficiency is also a focal objective. This involves the installation of shading devices, double-glazed apertures, solar panels energy-saving light fittings and roof insulation.
