Aim:
To install lifts in Government owned blocks to render them more accessible.
Criteria:
1. At least one of the applicants or relative who lives in the block / entrance must have a disability related to mobility or have mobility problems
2. At least one of the applicants must be a tenant recognised by the Government.
3. All the tenants/owners living in the block must be members of the Residents’ Association applying to install a lift, where at least two-thirds agree to participate.
4. The applicant with disability and all tenants who are participating in this scheme are means-tested to benefit from a subsidy on their share according to their annual aggregate income; if they do not qualify under the means-test they must contribute their share of the price for the installation of the lift. To qualify under this means-test, their assets in the three years preceding the date of application should not exceed €30,000 and their income for 2010 should be below €28,362.97.
5. The assistance subsidy shall be based on the aggregate annual income according to the table below:
6. Owners participating in this scheme must contribute their share of the price for the installation of the lift, according to the number of apartments in the block and the number of tenants/owners in the block that participate in the scheme.
7. Each application which qualifies under this scheme shall be given priority according to the gravity of the disability and the urgent need to install the lift in the block.
