The Housing Authority would like to announce that the scheme ‘Acquiring My Home’ is extended for another six months, until 2nd August 2012. This scheme was launched on the 2nd of August 2011 and was available till 2nd February 2012.
The main aim of this scheme is to offer the opportunity to the legal tenants who live in the governmental property in Cottonera, to buy the property they reside in at a subsidised price and become home owners.
The beneficiaries of this scheme are those tenants who have been renting out the same residence for more than seven years. Both Maltese citizens and citizens of the European Union can benefit and are eligible for this scheme.
However, the tenants should have been occupying the same residence for more than seven consecutive years. Such properties will be sold at a subsidised price under reasonable conditions.
Those interested may submit an application. This will allow the Housing Authority to collect the documentation necessary for the sale of the property. At this stage the Housing Authority will also be able to calculate the market price of the said property and the subsidy entitled. After the initial process, then applicant must submit a second application together with all the necessary
information and documentation. Once the applicant qualifies, the subsidised price can be confirmed. The tenant will then be able to sign a preliminary agreement with the Housing Authority which eventually will lead to the final contract.
The Housing Authority would like to inform the public that an information meeting is going to be held on Saturday 25th February, 2012, at the Phoenicia Hotel, Floriana at 10.00am. This will serve as an opportunity where interested parties will be given a direct and detailed explanation of Skema Kiri. All those present for this meeting will be able to clarify and tackle questions that may have arisen.
