The Housing Authority is launching a new scheme to invite owners to lease their vacant residential property to the authority for a minimum period of ten years. These properties will be in turn sublet to applicants on the Authority’s priority list.
Owners letting their vacant properties to the Housing Authority will benefit from a secure rental income for at least ten years, and benefit from an advantageous withholding tax rate of 5%.
Properties must be in a finished state and well maintained, have one to three bedrooms, and must be compliant with development permits and sanitary regulations. Applications for properties from any locality in Malta and Gozo are welcome. Applications are against a €20 payment. . Rental fees of over €400 will not be considered.
An independent Selection Panel composed of senior members of the Chamber of Architects & Civil Engineers will undertake a rigorous and impartial selection process based on the internal layout of the property, the quality of its finishes, level of maintenance, energy efficiency, quality of urban area, and compliance with general scheme conditions.
An information campaign will be launched in January 2012 to explain the scheme conditions in greater detail and highlight all the benefits participants of this scheme will avail themselves of.
